Air pistols are precision made equipment which have more advanced features than their
firearm cousins. They are so accurate at match distance that, locked in a vise, they will put all their shots into
just one hole barely larger than the diameter of a .177 pellet. In other words, if you miss the mark it's your
fault. There are no excuses.
The top of the line match air pistols are relatively expensive - in the
$1,000 to $1,300 range. However, when you consider the combined cost of pistol and ammunition, air pistols are
considerably cheaper to shoot over the long term and, since there is no recoil to mask your errors, they are the
very best way to improve your pistol shooting. |

| There are four types of air pistols on the market; spring powered, pneumatic, CO2, and pre-charged (SCUBA). Currently the top shooters are still winning and setting the records with CO2 pistols,
but the most recent push by the manufacturers has been to compressed air (SCUBA). This change is more an effort
to re-sell the market rather than a significant advance in technology. |

| The top of the line equipment commonly available are listed below. The older models
in this list are still capable of winning any match in the world and are still competitive with the newest models.
Older used models such as the FWB M2 can usually be found in the shooting community for $400 - $600 and provide
better value than the second line of equipment which are not on the list below. |
| On the other hand, if money is no object, the new compressed air equipment
shoots very nicely and removes all excuses for failure. New "bicycle" type manual pumps are handy and
easy to use and make these guns very convenient. |
